Seeing is Believing ...............

Seeing is Believing….

Many years ago, I advertised in one of my business flyers for Christmas products using this headline, which successfully attracted many customers to visit our booth (at the gift shows) and placed orders for our new arrivals. I guess when people see what they like or like what they see, it is far more convincing; like a picture which is worth more than a thousand words.

What about Faith?

I read about the Israelites this morning (below); I recognized the same kind of faith ….”Seeing to believing.”

The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived.
Then they believed his promises and sang his praise. (Psalm 106:11-12)

Similar to the case of doubting Thomas (who needed to see Jesus’ hands to believe in His resurrection), so many times in my life have I prayed/looked for miracles without trusting in His Faithfulness… walking by sight and not by Faith.

Praise the Lord……

After learning about my prayer partner’s faith in thanksgiving (when diagnosed with cancer) and Francis’ encouraging e-mail (to Michael’s ill health) pointed me to a greater Faith …. Believing without seeing!!

Comparable to the Spiritual giants in the Bible: When Abraham offered his son Isaac on the alter without hesitation, when Noah spent 100 years building the ark in the middle of dry land, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt for 40 years, when virgin Mary accepted the conception of Jesus Christ….

“… blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
(Hebrews 11:6)

“…For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

  1. AMEN!!!!!

    Special honorable mention for Moses....

    Hebrews 11:27
By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.

  2. Hi Jane,
Thank you for your house group sharing. We will be praying for Michael and his family.

I had an eye operation for almost a month but still cannot see with that eye and keep
praying patiently for its recovery(hopefully or else will have another operation)..
Health problem does teach us to be obedient and patient and look to Him though
I cannot see when and where is the light shining. Now I know why I was not able to secure the campsite to bring our group for retreat.

    Dear Ping On,
    We will be praying….
not only for your eye recovery, but also for the peace/inner joy during the waiting period.

Tommy, our pastor’s (Rev Paul Leung) son was blinded at age 20 due to illness.
After the initial rebellious anger and questioning God, he found peace in the Lord and dedicated his life to serve Him.
He has now completed his master degree in theology (on line) and has become an active member of Rainbow Ministry (for the blind) based out of Seattle. He also engaged himself in serving the Chung Hing School of the blind in China through missionary trips every year, the last trip was four months long without any traveling companion, all by himself.

Peter said every time we sing “If only I can see” in RHG, he remembers Tommy.

For me, it is John 9:1 – 3…

    John 9:1-3
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

    Thank you reminding me...

    Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
