Spiritual Fullness (Colossians 2:6-7)

Thanks to Albert’s dedicated teachings on the one (and only) chapter of Jude over the past seven weeks, most of us learnt and gained insight about false teachers/teachings.  Just as I was pondering over how not to fall into the trap of false teaching, I discouvered this very comforting verse this morning about Spiritual maturity.

Colossians 2:6-7     Spiritual Fullness in Christ
6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

At first glance, it seemed to me the procedures are rather clear and simple:

·       Receive Christ.
·       Live in Him.
·       Rooted in Him.
·       Built up in Him.
·       Strengthen Faith.
·       With thankfulness.

Afterwards, when I started to read more closely, I cannot help but noticing ….

  • Receive Christ Jesus as Lord.  (Lordship over my life)
  • Continue to live your lives in him,  (To experience Him in my daily living)
  • Continue to be rooted in him, (To be grounded on the solid foundation of the Bible Truth by studying His Words)
  • Continue to be built up in him, (To continue to grow Spiritually through serving and sharing the Gospel)
  • Continue to be strengthen in faith as you were taught, (To trust in His promises based on the teachings of The Bible)
  • Overflowing with thankfulness.(To Him be all the Glory)

By then, I can truly relate to the proper teachings of the sound doctrine to facilitate Spiritual Growth and not to be destracted or misled by false teachings.

In contrast to false teachers, our Lord uses other means to teach us: (Alpha)

a.     Commanding Scripture (the Bible).
b.     Compelling Spirit (the Holy Spirit working within us).
c.     Communion of Saints (Spiritual leaders and mentors).
d.     Common Sense (our God-given insight).
e.     Circumstantial Signs (things happening around us).

What do you think?  Care to share?

W? L? D? H?

W? L? D? H?

“… to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”
(Ephesians 3:18)
“…明白基督的愛, 是何等長濶高深.”  (弗3:18)
I remember quoting this Bible verse at the singspiration last week, and being mesmerized myself by the adjectives “長,濶,高,深”.
To my surprise (?) I came accross a very good explanation to that verse this morning:
Width in the Bible is the breadth of the whole earth (Job 38:18).
Length (length of days, Psalm 21:4) reminds us of time.
Depth is the depth of the pit of sin from which Christ drew you (Psalm 21:4).
Height is the height to which Christ has raised you – seated with Him forever at the right hand of God, sharing His throne.
As human beings, our knowledge and understanding of our Creator is so very, very limited.
If not for the work of the Holy Spirit to give light to His Words and promises, how can we ever begin to “grasp”?
