As soon as Alex Siu made the remark about wishing to be the stone jars that contained the water to be turned into wine, I was one of the first to burst into laughter over his idea that the jars were responsible for Jesus’ first miracle. However, after Bernard’s timely mention of “vessel” (器皿), I recall the Lord’s calling for us to become valuable vessels to be used by Him.
“Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.” (II Timothy 2:21)
Indeed without those stone jars, there will not be any container for water’s many usage those days including cleansing (feet?), cooking, perhaps drinking and last but not least the converted abundance of the good wine for this banquet.
How ready or willing am I to become “Instrument of His Peace” or “God’s chosen vessel” (Romans 9:15) for His name’s sake?
Ping On taught us to look out for Miracles, Wonders and Signs of Jesus in John’s Gospel.
This morning I read, “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,” (II Thess 2:9)
Therefore, I think we need to be strongly grounded in the Truth and God’s Words (as Albert always reminds us), so that we do not drift away; to serve and worship other gods and idols.
“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples put their faith in him.” (John 2:11)Memories of the night on Arthur Lang Bridge (Dec 23, 1998) when the Lord first revealed His glory to me is still very vivid in my mind. It is my firm belief that His timing and His planning are always perfect; much like “the plans to proper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11b)
