Three days ago I discovered this cobweb strung between the right hand front mirror of my car and the side door. Taking a closer look, I was fascinated by its fine, delicate and detailed architecture. For some reason beyond my "limited" common sense, I decided that the wind force at driving speed will be enough to cause its destruction. When I checked again the very next morning, I was surprised to find the cobweb totally intact. And on the following morning, I found the cobweb in the exact same condition.
Yesterday afternoon, as my passenger friend was stepping into my car, he too noticed the cobweb. Without any hesitation or uttering a word, he swiftly swiped away the cobweb with one hand, leaving no trace that it had ever been there.
My thoughts lingered all day about this simple episode, hinged on the magnificence of God's Creation. What was the point of existence of a "seemingly" fragile master piece that possessed strength enough to withstand the wind, yet collapsed so easily in human hands? Undoubtedly, I am also aware of the fact that the spider will never give up his ability to rebuild another web, probably within a very short time frame.
Later on, I was captured by the reading,
God has a plan that is unfolding and each of us has a role to play.
Do you know what your role is?
Have you ever asked God to reveal to you His purpose for your life?
Remembering Paul and the early apostles,
"Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the Will of God.." (I Cor 1:1)
"To the church of God..... those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy together ...." (I Cor 1:2)
I found myself relating to the cobweb with prayers of thanksgiving, pleading the Almighty to reveal the purpose of my life, in accordance to His Will.

心細如塵.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!!
To my great joy and excitement, I discovered another cobweb yesterday morning. Rather than the typical hexagon design, this was triangular with larger spaces in between and spanned across my right window instead of bridging the mirror and the car door.
ReplyDelete"What a smart creature! ", I thought to myself, "learning from past experience how to rebuild his home with a new style of construction.".
Taking every precaution to safeguard this second art piece, I locked the windows and rolled away very carefully down the drive way.
After two traffic lights, when I glanced in the direction of the cobweb, I was shocked to discover it being torn by the wind and the remains dangling limply.
I was overwhelmed by sudden sadness, frustration and helplessness.
"How can that be?", I wondered in my disappointment. First the cobweb was protected by nature and destroyed by human hands. Second time around, it was protected by human efforts and torn by nature. How sad for the poor little spider!!! He just cannot win!!
Popped up in my head were these Chinese "theatrical" jargons: 造物主玩人 or 不在乎天長地久, 只在乎曾經擁有?
What is the true meaning behind this exercise? One thousand Whys wrecked my mind as I struggled to bring some logic into this spider drama.
Somehow my mind drifted to Jesus Christ. After all the old testament prophesies about His coming to this world, He was born 2000 years ago into a poor family and grew up in a carpenter's home. He started His ministry on earth when he was thirty years old. That ministry lasted only three short years, among some very small towns of Galilee; and was abruptly put to an end by a tragic death on the cross. To those who believe, it is the greatest story on earth. To most of the unbelievers, it became a meaningless "story tale" account that is not a wise choice of action, possibly a waste of time, much like the cobwebs.
Will there be a third cobweb? I am almost certain that there will be.
Where and how will it be built? I don't have the faintest idea.
I think at this point I can find peace in the Lord, knowing that He is good, He is just, He is trustworthy.
He loves me and cares very much for me. He is in control of my life.
Whatever the future may bring, however uncertain the circumstances, He will be right there for me..... into eternity.
If He cares enough for the spider's short lived life behind the webs, how much more would He not care for me, a child that He traded with the blood of His precious son?
Giving Him Thanks at this thanksgiving!!!
